Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and 8 years relevant work experience, or a Master's degree and 6 years relevant work experience, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of people management and hiring, mentoring, and retaining talent.
  • Experience in policy, legal operations, regulatory environment, or content moderation.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Broad experience with internet technologies, related policy and regulatory environments and challenges affecting the internet, including free expression, and online safety.
  • Experience working with, influencing, and negotiating with a broad array of cross-functional stakeholders across global locations.
  • Experience using data and technology to identify and solve complex business challenges.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and use strong problem solving skills to make balanced decisions.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex challenges into simple and clear language.

About The Job

Trust & Safety team members are tasked with identifying and taking on the biggest problems that challenge the safety and integrity of our products. They use technical know-how, excellent problem-solving skills, user insights, and proactive communication to protect users and our partners from abuse across Google products like Search, Maps, Gmail, and Google Ads. On this team, you're a big-picture thinker and strategic team-player with a passion for doing what’s right. You work globally and cross-functionally with Google engineers and product managers to identify and fight abuse and fraud cases at Google speed - with urgency. And you take pride in knowing that every day you are working hard to promote trust in Google and ensuring the highest levels of user safety.

As a Policy Specialist Manager, you will lead a team of policy specialists responsible for the team’s engagement with legal removal requests in South Asia. You will be responsible for setting a strategy and executing on it, influencing cross-functional and external stakeholders to prioritize the team’s needs, and coaching your team to achieve great results. Your team’s work may include developing and launching policies and processes to implement and scale requirements from new and upcoming legislation regarding content moderation (such as copyright issues, defamation, data protection or government requests) across Google’s products.

  • Analyze policy and legal challenges facing technology platforms and make recommendations on how Google should address them.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across Google to ensure legal policy analysis and recommendations consider all teams’ perspectives. Resolve high-profile policy escalations from users, governments, and other stakeholders.
  • Represent the team in sensitive discussions with senior executives. Directly manage team members; coach, support, and motivate the team to achieve high quality results.
  • Collaborate with Legal, Public Policy, Trust and Safety, and Engineering teams to influence decisions that improve user experience and solve policy-related challenges.
  • Review or be exposed to sensitive content (examples: hate speech, violent extremism, etc) and may involve occasional off-hours coverage rotations.
